Current Decisions

“Ready” means the design direction is set. Waiting items still need the named selection, field information, or professional confirmation.

TopicStatusOverview
Overall layoutReadyFinal five-sided footprint: 25-foot house attachment, 16-foot maximum depth, 10-foot outer edge, and approximately 310 square feet excluding the spiral stair.
DeckingWaiting on materialDeckorators Voyage in Sedona is selected; exact board width, edge profile, lengths, and takeoff remain open.
FasciaReadyMatching Sedona fascia in a tiered/shadow treatment, flush with the deck surface and without a picture-frame border.
RailingWaiting on colorFeeney DesignRail Horizontal CableRail system is selected. The model suite uses Coffee Cream as the leading finish.
Spiral stairWaiting on providerExterior aluminum spiral stair at the planned stair location, with a simple horizontal-line guard and coordinated powder coat.
Supports & wrapsWaiting on engineeringTwo slim supports at the marked green-star locations, finished with capless Westbury aluminum wraps.
SoffitWaiting on colorChamClad soffit; the leading model uses Sunbleached Oak 6020 in a narrow linear installation.
LightingWaiting on layoutIntegrated Feeney railing light plus required under-deck lighting; circuits and fixture spacing remain open.
ElectricalWaiting on layoutTwo in-deck receptacles at the end farthest from the house, plus power and controls for both lighting systems.
Landscape wallUndecidedA short natural-boulder wall may manage the stair-to-grade transition near the air conditioner.

Topic Details

Approved reference drawings and the remaining product details needed before ordering.

01

Overall layout

Ready
Approved footprint · Approximately 310 sq ft, excluding the spiral stair

02

Decking

Waiting on material

Specification

  • Deckorators Voyage decking in Sedona.
  • No special board pattern; keep the field layout simple and continuous.
  • Use hidden fastening on grooved field boards where compatible.
  • Confirm the exact width, grooved and solid-edge quantities, board lengths, stair components, waste factor, and supplier after the final plan is dimensioned.
  • Approve the color with full-size samples against both the brick and painted cedar before ordering.

03

Fascia

Ready

Specification

  • Use matching Deckorators Voyage fascia in Sedona.
  • Build a tiered or shadowed fascia, with the upper fascia edge flush with the deck surface.
  • Conceal the exposed deck-board edge.
  • Do not add a picture-frame deck-board border.
  • Coordinate the final fascia depth with the beam, drainage system, and soffit perimeter trim.

04

Railing

Waiting on color

Specification

  • Feeney DesignRail Horizontal CableRail, approximately 50 linear feet for preliminary planning.
  • Low-Profile Series 450 top rail with Bottom Rail and Intermediate Rail.
  • Use Conceal Kits and ⅛-inch Type 316 stainless cable.
  • Use Stanchion Mounts with no exposed surface-mount feet or plates.
  • Preferred height is 36 inches; confirm with the City of Chippewa Falls permit review and use 42 inches if required.
  • Allow for a slim wood cap as a future addition; do not use a wide drink rail.
  • The model suite uses Coffee Cream. Confirm the final powder-coat finish with physical samples.

05

Spiral stair

Waiting on provider

Specification

  • Use an exterior spiral stair at the planned stair location.
  • Use a simple horizontal-line railing that relates to the deck’s Feeney cable railing.
  • Custom Iron of Zumbrota, Minnesota is the leading provider for quotation.
  • Specify aluminum for exterior corrosion resistance.
  • Coordinate the powder coat to the final Feeney railing finish.
  • Finalize diameter, rotation, platform, tread surface, risers, footing, landing, guard geometry, and code requirements before ordering.

06

Supports & wraps

Waiting on engineering

Specification

  • Preferred arrangement: two support columns at the green-star locations and none at the red-star location.
  • Keep the supports visually slim—4-inch wraps if the structural design permits, otherwise 6-inch.
  • Use straight Westbury aluminum wraps without optional capitals or bases.
  • For Coffee Cream railing, use Sandy Shore wraps. If the railing finish changes, coordinate the wrap color again.
  • An engineer must determine the structural material and size inside each wrap, beam and ledger design, connectors, footings, lateral and uplift resistance, and whether the existing deck-to-eave column is required.

07

Soffit

Waiting on color

Specification

  • Use ChamClad only on the finished underside of the deck; do not extend it onto the house eaves.
  • The leading finish is Sunbleached Oak 6020 — Matte Finish PVDF.
  • Use narrow linear panels running front-to-back.
  • Finalize Traditional versus Quick Click/Shadowline profile, panel width, solid and vented areas, perimeter trims, and removable access.
  • Provide a compatible drainage/waterproofing plane above the soffit and coordinate penetrations for lights and electrical access.

08

Lighting

Waiting on layout

Specification

  • Integrate Feeney lighting into the railing for approximately 50 linear feet, subject to the final takeoff.
  • Base configuration: one continuous railing-light run.
  • Pricing alternate: upper- and lower-rail light runs with independent controls.
  • Under-deck lighting is required and must be coordinated with the ChamClad panel layout.
  • Finalize fixture type, spacing, warm color temperature, dimming, power supplies, routing, and service access.

09

Electrical

Waiting on layout

Specification

  • Provide two in-deck receptacles at the deck end farthest from the house.
  • Use bronze/brown low-profile weatherproof covers.
  • Provide power for railing lighting and under-deck lighting.
  • Finalize outlet coordinates, GFCI protection, circuiting, switches/dimmers, transformer locations, cable/conduit routes, junction boxes, and accessible service points.
  • Coordinate every penetration with the drainage plane and soffit access strategy.

10

Landscape wall

Undecided

Specification

  • Use a short, natural boulder wall if needed to transition the stair landing up to the higher grade near the air conditioner.
  • Keep the wall low and informal so it supports the architecture without becoming a dominant feature.
  • Use it to retain grade and help screen the air-conditioning equipment from the lower patio.
  • Finalize alignment, height, length, drainage, planting, and equipment clearances with the stair and grading plan.
